Effect of Pro-activeness as Components of Corporate Entrepreneurship on Profitability of Listed Manufacturing Firms in Nigeria: The moderating role of Risk-taking

Abstract

The objective of this study is to examine the effect of pro-activeness as a component of corporate entrepreneurship on the profitability of manufacturing firms in Nigeria, with risk-taking moderating. Data for the study were obtained with the aid of structured questionnaire, while the structural equation model, PLS-SEM was used to analyze the data generated. The findings reveal that pro-activeness has negative and insignificant effect on profitability of the selected manufacturing firms. The interaction of pro activeness and risk-taking was found to be negative and insignificant to profitability. Risk-taking equally was negative and insignificant. This implies that manufacturing firms in Nigeria are neither proactive nor risk takers. The moderating effect of risk taking does not enhance the relationship between pro-activeness and profitability of the manufacturing sector in Nigeria. It is evidenced from literature that the non-pro activeness of manufacturing sector in Nigeria is non-friendly business environment of Nigeria. This is also why the manufacturing sector is risk-averse. The interaction of these variables brought about declining profit rate of the selected firms. The pattern effort of the government and the Manufacturing sector in Nigeria can enhance profitability through enabled environment, proactive and taking risks.
